Our Club

Our club offers tag and tackle youth rugby programs for boys and girls.

Tackle rugby is offered for ages 10-18 and is primarily played in the spring from March – May with pre-
season training starting in January. There are also opportunities to play tackle 7s rugby in the summer.

Rugby VA designates teams by U12, U14, U16 and 18U. A player is assigned to their spring / summer
team based upon his/her age as of Sept. 1 the previous year (Ex – Athlete is 13 on Sept. 1 of 2023,
he/she will be assigned to the U14 team for the 2024 spring / summer seasons)

Tag rugby is offered for ages 5-9 from June-July and provides a great foundation for new and
experienced players to develop their rugby skills. Rugby VA offers U6, U8, U10 and U12/U14 tag. A
player is assigned to his/her spring / summer team based upon his/her age as of Sept. 1 the previous
year (Ex – Athlete is 9 on Sept. 1 of 2023, he/she will be assigned to the U10 team for the 2024
summer season)

During each season, players should expect two practice sessions during the week and matches on
Saturdays. We play across NOVA, Richmond and Culpeper with occasional trips to other areas.
Players are also offered special opportunities to play in tournaments, participate in training events and
attend collegiate and professional rugby matches.
The only equipment players will need are cleats and a mouthguard. Players are allowed to wear a
protective scrum-cap but this is not required.

 

Tackle
